Say 'No' to your Temptations

Temptation is a fundamental desire to get involved in short-term urges for enjoyment that threaten long-term goals. In the others, it us the state of being attracted and enticed towards a thing without considering the moral, ethical or ideological valuation or implications. For example, one may get tempted towards eating a food item even though he knows that it is harmful for health.

Exercising self-control over your temptations is a predictor of success. Researches show that children who learn to control their impulses do better in school, college, work and relationships.

Starting self-control or abstinence is very difficult, thought following it is not so difficult. Once you learn to become disciplined, you enjoy being disciplined. You should always remember that whenever abstinence is practised, the results are good health, harmony in mind and spread of goodwill amongst the people you live with .

On the contrary, lack of self-control ruins one's mind, body and soul. It slowly transforms the good into bad and then bad to worse. For example, the drug addicts spoil their bodies as well as their families.

So as to control your temptations:

  • Use distractions to pull your attention away from temptations.
  • Never reconsider previous decisions when you are under the influence of temptations.
  • Understand that developing self-control is a process of learning and practice.
  • Develop a  strong approach against all the things that are harmful in some or the other way.
  • Dump the old notion that your abilities or attitudes are set--they are not, you can learn new ways.
  • Notice and celebrate small bits of progress.
  • Develop a friend circle in which people encourage each other to exercise self-control.
  • Live for the changes that you are working on and practice them into being.

What is Attitude?

Attitude is associated with a physical neural state, verbal opinion, ideologies, and an integrated philosophy of life. Attitude is the detailed direction of human behavior. Attitude is a stage of sensitiveness and process to act.

The main difference between Attitude and Ego is that Attitude makes you to defer from others While Ego makes you alone from others...

THREE MAIN COMPONENTS OF ATTITUDE

Cognitive Component of Attitude

It refers to opinion or belief part of attitude. When you form your opinion or judgement on the basis of available information and decide whether you have a favorable or unfavorable opinion on that, it is the cognitive component of attitude. Example: "I just found out I being paid 20% less than mu co-workers."

Conative Component (Emotional) of Attitude

It refers to the emotional aspect of attitude. This is perhaps the most often referred part of attitude and decides mostly the desirable or undesirable aspect of attitude. Example: "I feel angry that I am not being treated fairly. "

Affective Component of Attitude

It refers to the behavioral part of attitude. If we have a positive attitude for a particular object, it is likely to be translated into a particular type of behavior, such as buying or procuring that object. Thus it is the intention to behave in a certain way. Example: "I am going to quit this job as soon as I can, and I am taking the red stapler with me."

STOP!

There are some tips for those few among you who may have already started smoking.

1. If you smoke even three cigarettes a day - don't fool yourself - you are already addicted! You will not find it easy to give it up.

2. Smoking drastically reduces the vitamin C in your body. Your intake of vitamin C should be at least double that of a non-smoker.

3. Do not smoke a cigarette to its filter. The last one-third of the cigarette contains more nicotine than the other two-thirds put together.

4. Decide a date by which you will stop smoking stick to it.

5. Some people find it easier to reduce their smoking gradually till, finally, they can do without it. Others find it easier to stop all on a sudden, bear the unpleasantness for three days and then be totally free. Find out which suits you better.

6. Avoid high-risk situations. When someone in your company lights up, walk away.

7. Do not buy cigarettes at all, or buy them one by one. Do not keep a lighter or matchbox on you.

8. Take one day at a time. Do not think about tomorrow. Avoid smoking just for today.

9. The key to your success is self-motivation. You are the only one who can make you stop.
